If you're going to be visiting or moving to Newport News, Virginia, one of the first things you're going to want to know is where to go for the best shopping. Whether you're just heading out to pick up some aquarium gravel for your fish tank, looking for souvenirs to take home to the family, or completely outfitting your new home, you're going to be spending some money while you're here. The following guide will introduce you to some of our favorite spots in Newport News to go shopping.

Oyster Point

City Center at Oyster Point is a modern approach to shopping that combines upscale chain stores with nearby hotels, condos, and offices so that you can live, work, and shop all in the same area. If you're in town for a conference you can just whip off your meeting name badges during breaks and head downstairs to shop. This mall has old favorites like Banana Republic and Coldwater Creek as well as some unique home furnishing stores like the Mole Hole. There are also several restaurants and spas to choose from.

Patrick Henry Mall

If you live in suburban Rosedale homes, this is the type of mall you're used to going to with friends. With over 120 shops and services, the Patrick Henry Mall aims to provide you with everything you can possibly want. Anchored by department giants Macys, Dillards, and JC Penny, the Patrick Henry Mall also has a huge crop of popular chains such as Victoria's Secret, Old Navy, Best Buy, and Hot Topic. The mall also has special events such as free makeovers and blood drives, a full service food court and several sit down restaurants.

Port Warwick

Port Warwick is a planned community in the middle of the city designed to mimic small town life. The Port Warwick Shoppes are an outdoor shopping area reminiscent of the main street of a small town. This is a different sort of shopping experience than you're used to if you drive a New Jersey airport limo. There are artist studios, specialty boutiques, traditional tea parlors, elegant restaurants, and plenty of services such as a tailor, a yoga studio, and a salon.

Specialty Shops

Throughout Newport News there are also a variety of specialty and department stores you might want to visit if you want to take some parts back to Heating Oakville or search for a hard to find item. Tuesday Morning on Jefferson Avenue features closeout sales on upscale merchandise and there's also a permanent flea market on the same road. Just down the road, Anderson's Greenhouses has all the plants and gardening equipment you could possibly need and a gift basket from Betty's on Bluecrab road is a great thank you for welcoming neighbors.
